I have been feeding a stray cat for 2 years. Last week he brought me something.
His name is Shogun. I named him Shogun because the first time I saw him he was sitting on top of a vending machine with the posture of someone who owned the entire block. He is grey. He is large. He does not particularly like me but he tolerates my presence as long as I produce food within 30 seconds of his arrival. I started feeding him in March 2022. Wet food, 6pm, back alley behind my apartment building. Every day. Rain, winter, hot summer nights. Every day. He has never once sat in my lap. He has never purred in my direction. He eats, he looks at me with mild contempt, and he leaves. Last Tuesday he did not eat immediately. He sat down. He looked at me. Then he put something on the ground in front of me and walked away. I looked at what he left. I need $2 to tell you what it was. I am not being dramatic. I have been thinking about it for a week and I still don't know what to make of it. ๐
